Departed on a gust of wind

posted in pets |

Some things can’t be blamed on the weather. Even if the weather is to blame. Let me elaborate.

Just before dawn, I woke to a sudden noise. The wind, apparently. Rattled the window blinds when the deck door blew open. I got up, quickly, put things back in order, closed the door… and noticed that the dog was gone. We’re still pre-sunrise, so all I could do was to call, plaintively and then wait for a period of time that seemed much longer than it actually was. The dog came home, said nothing, settled back into his familiar bed while I got up and had a very early breakfast.

According to my “met records”, we didn’t have a front come through. Just a slight gust of wind.

The potato crew didn’t come back today. Something about a “day of rest”, I imagine. What with the wind, I didn’t install my second light fixture. Unwilling to try balancing on the top of the step ladder without a safety net. Perhaps tomorrow?

The other adult in our household has been away to tour the other end of the province. Back now, and I had to ask: “was it different from here?” There’s been a nagging suspicion, on my part, that things are not the same, once you get past the old air base. Sure enough, agreement. It isn’t LIKE here. Not sure how to quantify that, but let’s go with a qualitative judgement. It goes beyond the weather. Up there (in the wilds), things are not like here. Different botany. Different architecture. I’m going to have to study this further. Call on a few friends to get parallel impressions. Could it be that the province is larger than we know?
