Boiling my water via technology

posted in politics, technology |

My day to experiment with technology. I found our induction hotplate, measured a litre of cold water into a suitable pan, and plugged the hotplate into the “battery box”. Not the technical term for it, but a better one, when explaining to those unfamiliar with my new toy.

So, heating one litre of water, from tap cold to a rolling boil: less than six minutes. The current draw was around 1600 watts, which was expected. No other details to offer. I believe we made the right decision for people who might be off grid, someday. As well, I now have a number of solar panels coming. Too many choices out there. I will see if I get what is advertised, and the sun should shine often (the eclipse went by, very early this morning, screened by dense cloud cover). Now that I don’t have any responsibilities, I can play.

Unsure what to think about an MP crossing the floor. When you “run” for a party, and use their deep pockets to fund your campaign, it would seem like the minimum in civility to stay with “the one that brung ya”. I’ve not had this as an electoral option, but I’d be hesitant to vote for the gold digger, looking ahead. Remember, no pension until you’ve stay for a defined dance card. As well, this sort of opportunism should trigger a byelection. It’s at least as important as a retirement or death in the ranks. That won’t happen, because legislators have their own best interests at heart. Just take note. Some of the electorate have long memories.
