Preparing for those dark moments
Another afternoon, squandered. Perhaps that isn’t he best word, but I’m still trying to decide how much I would be willing to pay for some solar panels. The sweet point is around $1 a watt, here in Canada. The people at Amazon can deliver, once I commit to the idea of purchasing. And there goes the hamster in the wheel.
I did get an answer to my techincak question: I contacted the people in Idaho who manufactured my system, and had a response back within a few hours. As quoted: “You can use any panel they do not need to be 24v panels. You just need to ensure that however you set the panels up that you’re within 35-145v and up to 30a per charge controller. With that, you’re all good to go.”
Straightforward enough. No sales pitch. They know that we have a frontier to cross, and that my eventual source of panels will be as close to home as possible. No freight. No duty, I hope. Have to watch my pennies, even if I don’t carry them in my pockets any more. It moves me closer to having autonomy while in the RV. Our home system gets us through “dark times”, but I want the same thing while sleeping in a big bag.
I actually considered one of those wind generators, and quickly realized that there is nothing more fickle than a breeze. Yes, it can be cloudy during sun time, but except for that forecast eclipse this week, the production of energy is a given. I might even get meyself one of those “Instant Pots”, going forward.
Down below me, the field is being prepared for something agricultural. Can’t wait to learn what.
