MIA: One drain plug
Even though we have no travel plans, short term, I’m a conscientious RV person. Every fall, before the onset of cold weather and snow, I do what is known in the circles as “winterization”. Too long to explain, but it does kill an afternoon. And every spring, once I feel confident that there are no sudden ice age signs, I go to the other extreme (known as “de-winterization”).
Now, one of the conveniences we have onboard, rarely used, is a hot water heater. Connected to both the electrical and the propane systems. Each year, I fumble about until a small nylon plug is removed, allowing the tank to drain. And then I put back the plug and wait for the future. Or did I? This time around, no plug.
Some pointed research allowed me to find out the measurements, and that this is a piece that is usually replaced each year. Necessity? Loss? Not clear, but I feel better. And Amazon will have a dozen more here in a few days. If I’m lucky enough to have ordered the right size, my only excuse going forward will be that I put the rest of my order into a “safe place”, to be discovered by future generations. I know. If only I was more systematic, blah, blah. At least I’m trying to keep the systems ready. Sooner or later, we can lift anchor, sailing (in the virtual sense) to new destinations. Having hot water for a shower might be nice. And that’s my moral tale for today. Come back in a couple of weeks to see if I did things right.
