Birds, bees, flowers and trees
Given that our major visual distraction here, other than the ocean, is the bird life, I thought it might be useful to show the relative size between a bird and a common flower. I didn’t realize until today that our warblers enjoyed the dandelions. Cover, colour, flavour. Here’s a photo for you to visualize things.
I’m going to skip the ocean pics, for now. No whales locally to provide a sense of scale. They’re out there, but some things don’t always show up when I’m behind the camera.
Son #1 is house hunting, vaguely. He’s learning that in a hot market, if you aren’t there from the moment the listing appears, you’re dealing with historical footnotes. Yes, things are moving that fast. A matter of hours, not days. I take the long term approach, in that houses are like buses (another one will come along), but I’m not the one on the quest. Miracles happen. At some point, he’ll find himself locked into a long term, mortgaged existence. And yes, unless the market collapses, you can always get rid of something as big as a house… assuming you’ve already found a replacement. Truth is that I would not want to be in the market right now.
Even around here, prices are climbing. The average tag in the city is north of a half million dollars. Land is scarce, and lumber is worth more than certain precious metals. Who knew that in the opening decades of the new century, having a house would be beyond the budget of all but the wealthiest.
