Warmer? Cool!

posted in health |

Cold storage; not to be taken lightly. For example, one of the more important vaccines is to be kept in the level of cold that is found at the South Pole, and in refrigerators where we store salmon until needed for a dose of sushi. I know this because one of the neighbours loaned his refrigerator to the government some months back. A big deal, for a small business owner.

And so cold it will be… until the industry decides that the directive was too much. Today, we learned that the precious vaccine vials can be kept in an ordinary freezer. And all I really want to know is how this was decided. Did they forget to put a few pallets worth into the really cold place, and then found that the product still worked? Who chose -80C, originally? And now -8C? I really want to learn about the science.

Getting materials from place to place at the earlier cold levels meant that we had a bump in the flowchain. I’m glad that we’ve revisited things. It will mean a lifeline to those in outlying areas. Let’s keep on getting needles into arms. Summer is coming, and if we can actually go on vacation the level of pande-fatigue will lessen. A lot. Why, I am ready to go just as soon as you open the frontier.

I read the comments on social media: the roads will be crowded once we get the “good to go” signal. And if I complete my vaccine treatment, I might just join in. Not throwing away my cautious nature, for the worried class.
