Might be time for a medical evaluation

posted in pets |

Living in a family comes with obvious advantages. Division of household chores. Partners in conversation. Keeping the bed warmer. Well, I’m not taken to “washing the family laundry”  in public, but I have to draw attention to one member of ours.

A particular task that has been of importance, pretty much always, is to warn about the arrival of visitors. Company, solicitors, whatever. Gives the others in the home a chance to dress accordingly. And, perhaps due to declining mental facilities, one member of ours has gone off the rails.

Back about ten months ago, the family car was changed. The new one parks in the same place, and the appearance is only slightly different, but this one member of our community (I’m seeking appropriate synonyms here, to protect privacy) has taken to looking out the window, spotting an unfamiliar auto in the drive and then shouting about it. I guess someone missed an important memo. Those brochures on the kitchen table, or the new key fob on the counter, or even the small detail about going for a ride in that same car.

I don’t know what to do next. I’ve gone so far as to attach the family member to a long cord in the front yard, giving ample opportunity to view the new car from different angles. No change. I may have to discuss this with the appropriate medical specialist. Do we need to alter the medications. Perhaps an eye (or nose) examination? So many things to consider after what seemed simple (changing the car, I mean). We weren’t warned about this in any of those family movies.
