A novel parcel delivery strategy

posted in economy |

I am fortunate to live in a place with fresh air, greenery, a selection of wildlife, an ocean close by. And very little motor vehicle traffic. In fact, when something unusual is heard, it’s worth checking on the source. This morning, I could hear what seemed to be a motor revving, close by. Looked out the window, saw nothing out of the ordinary. Opened the door and confirmed that there was a new noise, just beyond the treeline.

A few minutes later, while checking things at the other end of the house, I saw this, and snapped a picture for posterity.

It seems that a new driver had seriously overestimated the space required to back his van in, for a delivery. And there he hung, until a tow truck could be brought up. A credit to the driver, who made his delivery to my doorstep, wished me a good day and returned to his van, to wait. No questions, no explanation.

Meanwhile. Oh, who am I kidding? There was no meanwhile. This remains the highlight of my day, right up there with getting a load of laundry done. I don’t get much excitement in my routine.

A new source of controversy: should we encourage “vaccine passports”? Those of the “live free or die” persuasion are convinced that this would be a gross infringement of their right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness (an alternative way of saying that they want their vacations). Perhaps someone should tell them that vaccines have been part of international travel requirements, for a very long time.
