Perhaps I have too much left to learn

posted in health |

As a parent, it would be better if my children did not realize how little I actually know about many things. They have a covenant with me. And yes, as they get older, they may have caught hints; glimpses behind the curtain, if you will.

As a self-directed learner, I’m always seeking new things to learn. Little things, usually. For example, did you know that yogurt has little in common with yoga? I have heard about yoga, throughout my life, without really understanding what people are talking about. There was that one book that I purchased from the monthly flyer we received in elementary school (to encourage buying books), but I didn’t really get it. Still don’t.

And so, like most self-directed learners, I asked Wiki, through the intervention of Google. And I learned, after pages and pages, that this might be a mystery to me because it really is a mystery. So much history. So many foreign terms (I’m too old to learn Sanskrit, I fear).

I then turned to YouTube. And now I know that I should have started this particular study at a much earlier age. I no longer have the level or flexibility to fold myself into a human pretzel. The “downward dog” might be within range, but my ability to squat comfortably (like an upright pretzel) is beyond me. Oh, yes, “it will improve with time”, but my fear is getting into a contortion that might become permanent.

And then, if the joint pain wasn’t enough, the change of diet could be insurmountable. Remember yogurt? Well, that’s not enough. It looks like I may need a teacher. A yogi? Am I saying that right? Perhaps I’ll have to accept my inability. More mantras, please.
