A seed for a new revolution?

posted in economy, politics |

By this time next week, the temperature today won’t matter, but I will make a record of it. We were at 13C (in the shade) at suppertime. The field next door is no longer under a uniform blanket of white. Nor is our own lawn. We’ll have to decide what flavours and colours will be featured in the vegetable beds. Soon.

It was pointed out that our border with the US has been closed (sort of) for a full year now. We haven’t even dreamed about a trip to another nation, but I know that the fever is high, for some who own land here in the great white. Especially when the taxes are still due, even if the right to visit has been curtailed. I don’t know how much longer our elected can justify that niggling reminder. Didn’t the whole premise of “revolution” get ignited by taxation without representation? My guess is that the failure to permit seasonal visitation is just as much a trigger.

I live in a world of old British TV (almost anything can be acquired, for a subscription). One important detail is that we never hear weapon fire, although people do tend to expire after unfortunate hunting accidents. Quite a change, after a lifetime of American drama. And speaking of drama, today a convoy of National Guard, in Texas, was ambushed by a man armed with a pistol and a ferocious beard. He didn’t believe their story about this being a vaccine transport, and managed to block the highway and then force an inspection. Is there something in their water supply that sets off the crazy gene?
