Wonders to behold

posted in travel |

I live in a wonderful part of the world, filled with neat places and things. But, how about the rest of the world? What do they have that would be listed as special? Fun fact: you can’t begin to realize how many things there are. Since I can’t travel, I have to rely on the testimony of others, one location at a time.

This afternoon, I came across one of those click-bait articles, where you have to go through pages and pages of garbage while trying to glean the gold from the dross. However… I learned that in a tiny town in central France (Tonnerre), the local washing well is essentially bottomless.

I know, not physically possible. But, the latest diving expedition had someone go down close to 100 metres before heading back. No, he didn’t find the bottom (another trip, perhaps?) This is an interesting well. It changes colour, often, along with being bottomless. No mention on the chemical profile of the water, but since it has served as the place to wash your clothes I will assume the water is pure. I’d like to visit a place like that. The Google streetview/satellite view doesn’t satisfy my curiosity.

There are videos on YouTube, naturally, so I’ll head over there as part of my learning process. Knowing I’ll never make it to wellside. Doesn’t matter. This is just one among too many to count attractions, and it reassures me of the wonder that is out there. Even without my direct attention. Sometimes following the thread can lead you down interesting paths.
