An interesting side effect
Another day in my quiet world. You know, I was probably less isolated when I lived on a tiny island, decades ago. Although, to be fair, that was a different time and place. I had daily responsibilities, and coming into contact with others was a requirement. Now, I hear cars go by on the main road, and sometimes there’s a delivery van stopped to drop parcels. That’s pretty much all of it.
I wonder how the kids are getting along. They’re in a big city, so the odds of coming face-to-face with others is heightened. No matter. I still have hopes and plans. Fewer dreams. Maybe I’ll get busy on some of my personal projects before winter sets in.
I checked the news feed. Elsewhere, there are problems. Grave ones. I should be thankful that (so far), the only knowledge I have of the disease comes from my news feed. You’ll notice that I don’t believe it is a hoax. There’s reality and then there’s insanity.
Turns out that there has been one positive effect from COVID-19. People are avoiding hospitals and emergency facilities as if their lives depended on it (it does). But I’m glad that the stubbed toes and minor belly aches have led folks to Google, instead of the health care system. According to today’s report, “ER visits and surgeries are down by half”. That’s impressive! Were many surgeries elective? Seems to be so. I mean, coronaries and appendectomies aren’t something you can turn on and off, at will. Fear, either. I’ve had no reason to use my health card (except for a flu shot), in many months.
