Derailed my loaf
An unexpected power bump, this afternoon, had an unexpected effect. We have covered most of our bases, in a world where the electrical system is open to glitches: stand-alone generator, buried cables, whole house surge suppression. The only thing that remains without remediation is the reset of clocks. Even there, I can handle most of the inconvenience.
Today, a new one. I had started the bread robot, and all was going according to “program”, until the bump. When current was restored (less than a minute later), the bread machine had hiccupped. Kneading that wouldn’t stop. And I’d learned, many years ago, not to overthink the “fold and throw”. Makes the bread tough, in a bad way. I turned off the machine, did the best I could to estimate the required time to finish the process, and started the “just bake” option.
It worked, after a fashion. My loaf was reasonable, and small. It’s more than half gone, now (because hot bread is like fine wine). And in a couple of days, I’ll make another loaf. It should be mentioned that the weather today brought hail and thunder, so it wasn’t an ordinary afternoon.
About a week ago, the Montreal harbour welcomed an unusual tourist. A solitary humpback whale. Well, the beast didn’t figure out the way home. The body was spotted, floating in the water, and now we’re waiting on the results of a necropsy. Can 2020 get over with the bad stuff and find a groove, please? We’re not through six months, yet. Time for a reset.
