Border restrictions in a state of change

posted in politics |

Try to sort this announcement out, please: today, the PM notified the Canadian population that there will be changes to the restrictions on cross-border travel. Effective midnight (next) persons that have immediate family members in Canada will be able to enter from outside the country. The definition of “immediate” is curious…

Through this exemption, the government is defining an ‘immediate family member’ as someone’s:

  • Spouse or common-law partner
  • Dependent child
  • Parent or step-parent or the parent or step-parent of the person’s spouse or common-law partner;
  • Guardian or tutor.

So, we should see a sudden uptick in the presence of grandparents and tutors. All of those entering will be expected to self-quarantine for the usual fourteen days. At the same time, any inter-provincial restrictions will remain in place, because federal and provincial standards are not aligned.

I guess we’re going to have a lot of tutors that are waiting for the opportunity to rejoin their students, in clusters along the international border. At least we will remain safe, here on my Island. I hope. (Our border is contiguous to us, only).

The dog has just passed through an exciting moment, when a fox entered the yard and hunkered down by the front doorstep. I watched, and waited (a very vociferous time). Once the dog returned to his domain, he pretended to be a scent hound (no, he’s not). The fox is already down the road (various vehicles stopped to allow the meander). And the dog will be unsure of what to do next, for hours. How to let our hairy householder know that the fox doesn’t really care?
