Efficient backfills

posted in environment |

If ever the question is posed, “What computer game best suited you for the life you live”, I will answer without hesitation. No, it won’t be Tetris, although that will score among the favourites. Rather, I have developed my ability to live among renovations with the occasional round of Sokoban.

Downstairs, we have made a choice. Rather than trying to empty our lives from the space while renovations are underway, I simply adjust the placement of the piles on a regular basis. This evening, half of the stuff made the trip into the other half of the basement, as rooms are completed. Why, I rather enjoy the challenge, given that this is a temporary measure.

We have added a small room with shelving; as of an hour ago, those shelves are full. Of course, I had to plan according to volume and mass. A good game, allowing me to kill off several hours of quiet time. And if the end of the renos ever arrives, I’ll be better off, knowing where everything is. You don’t realize how much stuff is around until you try to pack it into a restrained space.

A lot of the material was musical, and I have to admit; moving that set of drums brought back memories of my life at 17. And 16, and 15, and 14. All of high school. Why, I might not have retained much knowledge about pure science, or mathematics, or modern languages, but I can heft a set of traps beside anyone. Without noise (that being the true test of a percussion department member).
