A failure to restart

posted in health, technology |

In that murky world of firmware upgrades that go awry, there is something worse than failure. What do you do (next) when things halt, and all of the online forums suggest that you keep trying, again, and again? How much of your time are you willing to invest? I guess I am going to find out (got a gadget that is stuck in update limbo).

Meanwhile, I have completed my latest task (think Hercules). The medical system wants to know if I am, perhaps. In line for “really bad things”, so they sent me a nifty test kit. One that requires a change of technique in the way I void my lower parts. Yes, I have had to collect “dirt”, two days in a row, and tomorrow (if the car is available), I will drop my package with that nifty BioWaste logo at the reception desk. I don’t want to know what happens next. I figure that if I’m doomed to die (we all are, actually), I’ll get a call, or an email, or a tap on the shoulder from the Grim Reaper.

Just to be sure, I’ve checked on my preferred news website, and learned that China has (yet) another scary virus that has escaped and made its way to my part of the planet. Now, the news doesn’t say that this is the end of humanity; probably no worse than any other winter woe. But I hate the uncertainty. Should I start wearing a face mask (like in the movies), to keep the bugs at bay for an extra day?

The first couple of days of “impeach me if you can” have passed, and from what I can read, the outcome is anybody’s guess. Again, I’m sure I’ll hear, eventually.
