Imagine the possibilities

posted in humour, Wx |

I know. It is crazy to want things you don’t need. A sign of what is wrong with our society, etc. But, looking to the weekend, I’m wishing the winds would shift (in this direction).

You see, the southern part of Newfoundland is about to get lambasted. I’ve been to Trepassey, where they have a fascinating fence to keep back the sea. Might not work, this time around. Environment Canada estimates that the area could receive up to 70cm of snow, kept in motion by winds gusting to 140kph.

I’ve never seen a storm like that, despite growing up in an era where “we walked to school, three miles, uphill in both directions, and the snow covered the wires”. To be fair, if I was to make the trek to the Avalon, I wouldn’t see much, in a blizzard of that proportion.

There are traffic cameras (an oxymoron for an area with less cars than moose), and if you want to watch (I do! I do!), click on this link Friday next. Or any other time, because traffic cam tourism is addictive.

Around here, it snows. The plow goes by. The blue tractor visits. Repeat until springtime (which is about three months away, based on my historical notes). No big deal. I might get to use my snowshoes, once or twice, tops. But if I lived in blizzard country, I could get out and about. Get lost. Become the target of an intense search and rescue mission. Imagine the possibilities. Why, I might even get mentioned on the evening news!

So, should I move?
