Some sunny, breezy days needed

posted in technology |

A nod to the city of S’side, which just announced an investment in solar panels. Estimated price tag? Just short of $70 million. Given that they operate their own utility, this makes sense, long term. Sure, the sun doesn’t shine all the time; the wind doesn’t always blow, and I’m getting new wind machines in MY neighbourhood. Let’s avoid the silly tendency to burn fossil fuels, and not get nuclear. Right now, the best plan is to mix wind and sunshine, and we’re getting closer to a useful mix, all the time.

In the newspaper, it was also reported that the last storm (ice pellets, for the main part) proved itself hard on the snow removal machines. I was curious about why, until I went out on the deck this afternoon to clear our bounty. That crap is heavy! Big panels, more fit for igloos. Powder that did not want to stay on the shovel. I had to take two goes at the job (back care). Here’s hoping that the next burst of weather is more wind than weight.

In passing, the anemometer has been still for two days and nights running. I feared frost, but the local real monitoring site says the same thing. I’ll swat the cups with a long pole, tomorrow, but I think we are simply becalmed.

I helped to load the contractor-truck with a pile of garbage, this evening. Oversize boxes, pails of wallboard trim, some hose ends. Good to get it all out of the house, so that I can start the next bit of box shuffles in the basement. We’re progressing!
