Bumped from my couch
The phone call had an unusual message: “Hide all the food and tissue paper”. I, from long experience, understood that I was about to have company. Yes, the blue-eyed dog from up the road was stopping by.
Now, our dog gets along reasonably, once all the possible motivation for conflict is cleared away. Note the above reference to kibble. Most dogs are tolerant, but when it comes to sharing the manger, social norms are put aside. And so, for the last few hours, I’ve also lost my place on the couch. The visitor follows that code of “dance with the one that brung ye”, and will sit comfortable with his surrogate walker. I am an unknown quantity, and I don’t feel like going the full distance with gifts of “treats”. After all, the real humans in his pack might have particular rules about what and when to eat. Who am I to intervene? As a consequence, I’m sitting elsewhere.
Meanwhile, I have other duties. That magical tree-in-a-box is now ready to be deployed. Hard to believe we’ve gone (almost) a full year already. We also had our first snow clearing of the season. I checked back, and there isn’t any fixed date. One year, we went into January before the big blue tractor stopped by. I figure what is on the deck will melt before I have to get physical, and it’s reassuring to see that our contract (verbal) to come by when needed is working. I don’t want to shovel the lane. Time to enjoy the mechanical revolution.
This will be a week of work (again, not for me). I don’t plan to see the city sights any time soon.
