Spend your own money, buddy.

I think that I need to learn how to make my own bagels. Not authentic; I don’t intend to install a wood fired oven in the back yard. However, there has to be something better than a) trips to the big city or b) tolerating the ersatz rounds of bread sold locally. Not good, for anything. Even frozen and thawed doesn’t make a pig’s ear into a fancy handbag.

Speaking of food, we’re trying to explain “what is a Michael Smith?” to my visiting niece. Using a comparative, “it’s like a Ricardo” doesn’t complete the image. Similarly, pointing out that he serves over a thousand steak dinners, in a field, during a single afternoon minimizes his impact locally. Funny how that works.

Two sons, on the road. They have better sense than their parents; no sprint across the drive-through province to catch an imaginary ferry. They’ll be here, tomorrow, and the late summer chapter of vacation will begin. After their beach time runs out, it will be up to us to plan another road trip. Still too far ahead on my calendar, but I’d best start mental preparations.

Someone(a union spokesperson) in Quebec has launched a trial balloon. What if we put a tax on electronic goods with screens (tablet disdain) in order to help shore up the newspapers of the province? Yes, I read it in electronic print format. Here we have another case of someone wanting to spend everybody else’s cash. Hey! We already have three or more levels of government that have that game under (their) control. As a counterpoint: why not make your newspapers worthy of their clients. Just a thought.
