Counting names instead of cards

posted in genealogy |

As I watch the others playing card, I realize how useful a hobby can be. Instead of counting sequences, for example, I can try and find the ancestors of people I haven’t even met. Gives me the opportunity to marvel at good civil/religious recording techniques; imagine finding the parents of a person dead for three centuries. Now repeat the measure for another thousand-plus names. I’ll never run out of things to research!

Sure, it doesn’t really matter, this genealogy stuff… until it does. Easy to shrug when it’s someone else’s lineage. Your own, however. Never had anyone say that it wasn’t important when they’re at the root of the imaginary shrub. Why, without genealogy, we’d never know who the rightful king might be. OK, bad example. But, taken at face value, we all have ancestors. Yes, you do. Pretend you were created “out of whole cloth” and the world will mock you.

I received a couple of toroids in the mail today. If only I had a coil of enameled copper wire! Yes, this is a hint to a regular reader. Amazon has the stuff. Not exactly gold, but just as valuable when you want to practice winding technique. I tried with ordinary thread, but the effort was without meaning.

The dog got a new set of “meds” today, and wonder of wonders, he didn’t spit the pills out NEARLY as often. I guess my cheese distraction worked. No need to repeat this exercise between now and snowfall, if my calculation is correct. Keeps him parasite free and healthy, so a bit of slobber on my hand doesn’t bother me, much.

My family tree data set advanced past the 87K point, this evening.
