Still learning
I missed the parade. Given the three hours travel time, the need to park, the requirement that I leave home before breakfast (who runs a parade in the morning?) it was a foregone conclusion. Hate to have the organizers think that I wasn’t aware of the nature of the beast.
Instead, I continued to study. After today’s readings, I know that high voltage will arc, and shock, and make the life of an antenna builder into more of a challenge than I remembered. I come from a world where getting a long piece of wire in the air would get you on the air; now I want something better. My experimenter kit is en route from Reno, if the post office app can be trusted, and there’s enough in the box to keep me entertained.
But, dreams are free. If I can use those vari-caps I purchased while in Lima (OH, not Peru), I can make something that can handle higher power. At least, that’s what the spreadsheet calculation told me. So many aids that didn’t even exist, last time around. What a difference a half-lifetime makes. If I can source some cheap and flexible copper pipe, I can test the theory.
Here at home, nothing amazing. It seems that the big spatula I have for BBQ also cuts: meat, thumbs, whatever. Note to self: pay attention.
Getting psyched up for the kids visiting. I don’t know exactly when, or how many, but it will be among the highlights of this summer. Probably try to see some of the countryside (not just my own yard).
