The tinies are at the gates

posted in environment |

RDay one of the “real” summer: the tinies are in the house. I have to remember how quickly one can get tangled between my knees, if I don’t check my path in all directions. Yes, they move quickly, and I am invisible. By the time we develop a truce, they’ll be gone.

I tried checking the fridge calendar, but that’s secret. August is on a beed to know basis, apparently.  I have an understanding that we’re hosts, but the particulars escape me. The dog is practicing his “invaders at the gates” voice, as he also angles for treats.

No matter. Tonight we will pretend to go camping in the driveway, and I no longer wander in my sleep.  If the coyotes sing, I’ll hum along; words escape me. My sleeping bag is great protection against our heatwave, and the A/C  is FB, apparently. I’mspoiled. Back in the day, it would have been a  nylon tent and buzzing near my ear.

The research into antenna construction continues. I could simple order something online, but the reviews are confusing. If all available models are excellent, how does one choose. I want to see if I can turn a few dollars worth of plumbing materials into the equivalent of wonderful. Just for fun. This is a hobby, not ground support for interplanetary exploration. Stay tuned.

In the weather world, Maritime radar facilities  are U/S (the code for “on the fritz”), which precludes any advance notice of thunderstorms. If one sneaks over my horizon, the flash and bang will provoke shock and awe. Cheap thrills.
