Retraining, on my own dime

posted in economy, education, politics |

By going for coffee, in a real coffee bar this morning, I stepped outside my comfort zone. Long enough to reaffirm just how good my home coffee is.

We were in the city for another pressure check (still dropping, which means that  I can stop with the pee pills). After a month of short nights, perhaps I can just dream until dawn. As for the dog, I hope he’ll read the memo. “Sleep!”

We also visited some big box stores, because city. I try to shop like I have no extra money (I have no extra money) while pretending to the store owners that I’m just not into their inventory. Have to keep them on their toes.

The federal government has a plan, going forward. They want to help folks establish savings accounts, to pay for lifelong learning. Retraining, in the old vernacular. Here’s the thing: I’ve developed some amazing strategies for my adult learning efforts, none involving money. Should I call my MP and mention “the web, and books and mentors”? Probably doesn’t sound as fiscally convincing to the banks, but it can work. In fact, I probably have learned more outside the classroom than in. Less distractions.

Is this a way to fake out the voter? While the provincial government announced new, record surplus amounts, the people over at Election PEI have warned that there will be fewer polling stations next time around, because such frills cost money. It probably (?) won’t affect me, given that the number of polls is limited by geography and population, but in the city you might have to beg a ride from one of the poll captains.
