Imagine finding a small fortune

posted in pets, Wx |

On TV, a doorbell sounds. In the room, with me, the dog goes on high alert, ready to meet the visitors. This is the animal that I depend upon for protection while I sleep? I am so not going to win the zombie apocalypse!

Outside, a fine layer of ice covers a fine layer of snow. I peer at the calendar, and do some quick finger math. Spring starts in ten days? Not likely. I’d best plan on my suntan being “delayed due to an indoor lifestyle”. Who am I kidding? I haven’t (voluntarily) sought a tan in decades. Peeling became too much effort.

I went for milk this afternoon, and the local store was busy! Full parking lot. It seems that someone “found the joker”, and our local lottery has had a reboot. Now everyone realizes that a ticket (and patience, and a surcharge of good fortune) could see them as the next winner. You do the math. The prize would take care of the mortgage, and utilities, and groceries for a year. Enough to convince folks to dig deep in their pockets for another couple of bucks. OK, not me, but I’m skeptical about the fortune section. Some are destined to win; I am not.

But, I did buy a nifty LED utility light. About the size of a paperback book, and ready to help me find lost stuff wherever electrical current is available. I’d hoped for a battery compartment. In any case, it does have a stand, and it beats holding a Maglite over my head for long periods of time. We can’t always have “bright, sunny days” on demand.
