Take your mess with you

posted in environment |

I‘ve managed to reset most of the clocks within range, but that won’t be enough. Somehow, I have to convince my brain that this is normal; even though the sunrise will betray me for several more days. Could someone in high places take the time to perform an analysis? We aren’t at war, all of our computers have accurate clocks, electricity will provide lighting for the awkward moments. I read that Europe is seriously considering the abolition of silly timekeeping. Might that we follow their logic.

Other than that, the rest of my world continues to turn according to circadian rhythms. The squirrels weren’t offput by my clocks, and water still came out of the tap.

Across the Strait, a certain pulp mill continues to poison the air and the water for the rest of us. Jobs, you know. I think the real statement is “money, you know”. The firm tells all who will bend an ear that thousands of jobs depend on their ongoing right to dump waste. I have but faint hope that the government will call their bluff. Once the “big pipe” gets rerouted into lobster grounds, a lot more people are going to lose their livelihood. As well, the mill in question is nearing the end of a useful (?) lifespan, and will shut down, leaving the pollution behind for others to clean up. Corporations should not receive a charter to destroy while making money. It goes for the oil fields of Alberta, and the thousands of abandoned mine pits across the country. If you can’t clean up your mess, you can’t play here any more.
