With the right key in hand

posted in computing, food |

Saved by the family courier service; our supply of coffee beans was just about gone, so they brought us a couple of bags full. (8.75 kg) should allow me to face the mornings for a while. We tried to source our coffee locally, but gave up when we learned that even the local roasters couldn’t deliver either the quantity or the variety we wanted. And forget the local supermarkets. We’ve returned to a small shop that will accept phone orders (and delivery by whatever means we want).

Of course, the courier (being family) doesn’t come in this direction all that often. We might go up, but that requires serious effort. Postal service isn’t so bad, if we plan ahead. No waiting until the local supply is exhausted, for example.

This afternoon, I’ve been trying to walk another son through computer problems. Specifically, a keyboard that doesn’t deliver certain letters. I know how to test for such things, but I’m also better equipped for the diagnostics. Right now, the process is on hold until we can find an alternate “boot source”. For example, an image CD, or a USB key loaded for bear. Maybe tomorrow. School is about to start, so a wounded computer is a serious impediment. And, I don’t do house calls for a few letters that don’t work. There are other things you can do.

In the online gaming world, an episode of FPS. Unfortunately, the sound effects were real, along with the bullets. What is it going to take to change the mentality down there? The shooter had lost a match of virtual football and responded from the mouth of his “muzzle”.
