Among the inevitables
Some things are inevitable, even if the fit isn’t ready for prime time. First up, the electric car. In my media feed, an ad for the Chevy Volt. Looks nice, as long as you stay very close to home. Turns out that it has a useful range of 85 km per charge. I could get to the city, but I’d have to stay there. Think I’ll remain a client of big oil for a bit longer.
Next on my list, bitcoins. The new devil child of government. A rumour that people are hiding forbidden imagery in the files seems unlikely, but it allows controls to be placed by the authorities. Similarly, New York state (a big client of Hydro Quebec, in passing) is prepared to apply “particular pricing” to those who mine. You can use our cheap current for anything except bitcoin. Sounds like the state has taken note of the technology, and is prepared to make it not even worth bit-pennies.
And finally, maybe, digital bagpipes. The Blair Digital Chanter is out there, at a price that will convince some to “play”. On first take, I’m impressed. The ability to add digital samples is intriguing. No need to ever learn how to carve a bad reed. Headphones! On that note alone, I can see the world awakening. Now, I can’t get a set by the family comptroller (I don’t play bagpipes, ergo…) If anyone else wants to prevent my taking the wrong fork in the musical road, this would make a perfect gift (for any time, really)
