No blocks here
Could this be symptomatic of an age crisis? Rather than checking the price point of a red sports car, I found myself comparison shopping for large amounts of Lego. Turns out that with Amazon, I could gather close to 1000 pieces (all sizes combined) for about $100! In case the kids come to visit…
Actually, one did call me, but he wanted to build a box for a Raspberry Pi project. After learning that we had already turned over the family heritage (a large plastic container filled with everything left behind in the block collection) he turned to other sources. If only I’d ordered earlier.
I bought my first (very small) parcel of Lego a long time ago… soon be sixty years. I have none of it left. The stuff has a habit of disappearing, usually after afflicting maximum damage on the sole. No spelling error, there. Dangerous, what with the sharp corners and a tendency to come back in rebound when kicked out of the way.
I just did a mental check; we have little of the “oh, you have children” content around here any more. No broken hockey sticks or tattered tennis balls (to go with road hockey). My lacrosse stick was abandoned, and I have no intention to buy another one, no even to hang on a wall. No lawn darts, or clicker-clackers. In fact, my home is now safer than at any point since the mid 80’s. That’s a positive thing. And if we “get into” the granding business, I’ll vet every purchase against a safety list.
