Provided sound effects

posted in technology |

Tock! I’m providing sound effects to go with the narration. That’s the sound of a small pebble, driven out from beneath a truck tire, as it makes contact with (my) windshield. The resulting crazing of the glass has no real noise, other than the wailing and gnashing of teeth as the driver realizes that something “bad” has happened. No passing the yearly inspection, now.

The roads are made from millions of tiny pebbles, so one breaking loose and then breaking glass is just part of life. We’ve never opted for concrete highways (which also have tiny pebbles, in case you didn’t already know the industrial secret). Anyhow, after checking to see that the damage was not an optical illusion, it was time to contact the local garage. Remedy central.

For the record, this wasn’t a tiny spawl. No cosmetic blemish. As well, there were leading lines, which I’ve been told have growth as a fundamental feature. Sunlight added interesting flashes.

Of course, the garage guy knew just what to do. He phoned someone; ten days later we had an invitation to leave the car over for the morning (and afternoon). Another sound effect, unheard: Presto-Changeo. When I took the car out to make my mail run, it was all clearer. Cleaner, actually. No dab of crazy glue. This was new and shiny.

I’m unsure of just how the company makes any money, as I wasn’t given a bill. Somebody mentioned “insurance” and the others nodded knowingly. Lots of things to ponder, as I head along the highway.
