A fox AND a hummingbird about the place

posted in politics, technology |

Today, a first hummingbird buzzed the feeder. As well, a fox traversed between the bird feeders out front, just before suppertime. Although I cannot take personal responsibility for either incident, I’ll accept that something went well today. Oh, and the lawn is cut. Again, no thanks to me.

My repairs to the big green and yellow mower have bogged down. After finding the piece and removing the first few bolts on the top of the engine, I came up against two small Torx screws that have resisted my best efforts so far. My various attempts with the proper tool led to naught. Dosing with WD-40; ditto. I’ve ground away most of one bolt (you can buy replacements cheap in the hardware store, and it feels good to do something), but right now I’m stymied. Even picked up a small container of actual penetrating oil, after consultation with the guy in the shop apron…

Tomorrow is supposed to be really warm and sunny, so I might just apply some “juice” and wait things out. After all, the lawn won’t grow back that quickly (yeah, right!).

On the news, a clip of the visit by the Turkish leader (he just upped his rights to supreme maximum). The bodyguards (AKA goons) attacked the protesters and went all “kick them again, while they are down on the ground”. Please note, this is in downtown Washington DC. I didn’t know you could act like you were at home when visiting a foreign country. Need I add that the DC police were completely ineffective – reminded me of middle school teachers trying to slow a playground brawl.
