Bumping the camera along

posted in computing, education |

This was a meeting evening. Community service, with a chance to practice my penmanship. In a perfect world, I’d bring along a laptop and do my official recording direct to file; this is not a perfect anything. By scribbling, I extend my workload (decrypting, in large part), but it saves having to volunteer as the go-to IT guy at a time of the day when I would prefer to kick back. I don’t have to prepare the agenda, which is a blessing in so many ways. Just pay attention and take notes, like the good old days in one of those classes in university.

Our group is ready for the summer long sprint. Two museum sites, a schedule of activities, all the headaches of serving as an employer without any fiscal control. I’m having fun! Other than that, my days are without a personal agenda; everything that retirement is rumoured to be.

I’m hard pressed to think of anything else that happened today. My weather cam is not responding properly, so it’s time to check for software updates and procedural hints. This should be simple, but for the last month I’ve been nudging the box with a reboot plan. That could explain if the OS has gone wonky. Maybe the system I’m using should be replaced with something generic. Add in a second camera, go to a standalone Linux computer with FTP push. So what if it requires study (on my part)? Either I stay the course, or I purchase a commercial solution. I’m too cheap to save time.
