Proof that times have changed
As the news came up, I realized just how much times have changed. The Prez just fired the Director (of the FBI). Now that would not have happened, back when J Edgar was in the office. No reason has been given, but let’s take it as a sign that things are chaotic in that big, white mansion with the fence all around. I’m looking forward to late night TV, for the usual explanations.
Meanwhile, I’ve had another cinematic escape from reality. I watched Gold, with Matt McConaughey. Unlike the usual plotboiler, I could not have guessed any of the chapters in this story. As a trade-off, I’ve learned a tiny bit about prospecting. When one of my cousins sent along photos (from his own, real life adventure among the rocks), I had no idea about the what and the why. Now I do. Time well spent, if only for that.
Sometimes the apple doesn’t fall far from the family tree. Among the cast of the movie, a certain Bryce Dallas Howard, daughter of Ron Howard. She understands her craft. I’m sure that having a father who has “done it all” doesn’t hurt, but he’s not there in the film frame. This is her own effort. There are other families with similar parent-offspring successes; I appreciate them all. Except, perhaps, Charlie Sheen: he’s a loony tune without the great soundtracks. Oh well.
Happened to check the AIS app, this afternoon. It showed two ships in view, meeting just off from here. The spotting scope showed exactly the same thing, which renews my faith in technology. Cool!
