Using old tracks

The campsite went from sleeping people to cargo in just under two hours this morning. Not record time, just enough to allow us to say the requisite goodbye to the keeper of the gate and find our route through Pisquid and on to the boat. We didn’t make any land claims.

Last meals for those who must leave

We took another shore road this morning and ended up having a tasty meal just east of the lighthouse in Naufrage. The Shipwreck Point cafe came highly recommended by Mr. Gray in the Guardian, and we weren’t disappointed. I have never had any occasion to go looking for a meal in that area, but even in mid-afternoon the place was full. Good sign.

Revisiting tables

As Forecast, the second round of restaurant visits is underway. The Bonsai is still offline, and so we avoided the Greco and returned to the Bluefin. The chowder remained excellent. In fact, the best we’ve found in close to three weeks of random samples. Unfortunately, we stepped away from the fish side of the menu and were somewhat disappointed. Out of three different plates, none were up to the standard of the famished camper.

Reunion (not the island)

Proof of concept: take a really successful animated TV program and try to create a feature movie with live actors. The Simpsons are in town. So are we, with the thermometer stuck at close to mean body temperature. For those that do, the cinema provides a dark cave for the afternoon.

Perhaps some bylaws

I’ve been a resident in my new community for over two weeks now, and my opinion is that it is time for some zoning and policing bylaws.

All the comforts of home

We’re online, the Laptop Twins, fraternal, not identical. We have taken over the place (the ATC lobby), pulled up chairs and beaten the validation wizard. All is well in the city.

Over on the summer side

We hadn’t made it all the way to Summerside the other day, so the usual passenger manifest was on board for a short trip westward. We started with a visit to the Farmers’ Market in ‘town, where lunch fare was better than fair. The others opted for various personalized menus; I settled for a good coffee served by Theresa. The wonderful voiced  Ms Doyle was doing backup duty for her spouse at their stand, “for the second time in nineteen years”. I caught up on the whereabouts of some of the other coffeehouse people from the 70’s show (my personal version) and then watched someone spinning wool. No calluses there, due to the natural lanolin.

Ferry nice weather

Some days are meant for lookin’ and eating cheap ice cream. When the temperature soars, and the sea is as gray as the air above it, I can see why people don’t want to do much else other than sit and watch what is goin’ on outside.

Taking the long way around

So you’ve got a tank of gas and a beautiful sunny day. What to do? Play tourist for a change, I say. We had our campstove coffee and then off to explore the Island (or a portion thereof).

Contrast and compare

The cooking for campers recipe book has had little use so far this summer. Maybe it’s because we’re lacking in willpower (likely) or maybe we have an altruistic goal – to keep the restaurant industry “in the black” during our short time in the area. I am eating more fish than usual, so that my intake of some marvellous vitamin compound will be up to the “recommended daily intake levels”. In a small geographic area, the variety suffers, and we’re approaching the fatidic date where a return visit to certain establishments will be necessary.
