I’m a day early, and a few dollars shy, but let’s open with a quote taken from the Federal goverment website. The one that explains how a part of the money Canadians spend on every litre of gasoline is earmarked. The part that explains the GTF (Gas Tax Fund), which is a virtual piggybank, collected by piggy from the rest of us.

During a recent real estate transaction, part of the pile of paperwork included an affidavit certifying that the monies used in payment were not the fruit of criminal activity. I can’t claim to know everything my employer (the government) does, but within reasonable limits, things were OK. I signed, and I haven’t had to answer before a court of my peers.

Here’s a tip: never mock someone else’s bogeyman, lest it be living in your cellar.
I’m old enough to know that there aren’t any monsters under my bed (no room, what with all the stuff I’ve stored there), but I do listen to my children. They’re older, so are their fears. And although a depressed economy, an educational system that doesn’t appear to meet their needs and the sudden onset of winter are enough to keep me awake at night, their fears are going in an unexpected direction.
