Bad coffee and checkpoints
Let me admit something. I have had a very sheltered life, with almost no time spent in other countries. One country. So, I have been trying to make up for a lifetime of being sheltered from other customs by watching videos. Trying to get a feeling for what other people consider as noteworthy. Trying to equip myself for an uncertain future.
Today, I have been hanging out in the Baha. Mexico. Did not study maps yet, but I will. And the biggest mystery so far is something referred to as military checkpoints. On main highways. They seem to operate in a random fashion, and you may or may not get stopped. Or search, or shook down for money. So curious, because we don’t do things like that up here in the north land. I want to know more, but I don’t want to push the limits.
Road maintenance. Again, random. Even on main highways. I hesitate to guess at what life is like in the country.
On another track, you can find very old commercials from TV, if you are interested. I wonder about instant coffee, which I never liked once I discovered pour over. Specifically, what is the deal with decaffeinated. When your beverage is already horrible, in flavor, why would you remove toe only redeeming feature. Yes, I know that the cola industry need the drug, but why would someone voluntary accept what amounts to torture of the taste buds.
And finally, typewriters. Yes, I have used them. No, they weren’t wonderful. Not even the IBM Selectric with the magic golf balls that cost too much money. So glad that the computer was invented.
