Do I DIY or buy, buy, buy?
Classify me as conservative, if you wish. Not in my political views this is about technology. Right now, I have slipped into a rabbit hole, learning about batteries. There is a price point that gives me pause, and when someone extols the virtues if DIY, I want clarification.
Yes, you can save money by purchasing components online. Mainly from China. And when the suggestion that you make sure to match the capacities, I have to hit pause. And rewind. When you buy online, you don’t get to hand pick your pieces. If you find that you have mismatches, the onus falls to you to prove your case and commit an anonymous vendor to refund. I have a hunch that this is the real reason people pay for name brand products. The money you spend is to buy peace of mind.
What will I do, eventually? Not there yet. I understand convenience, and safety. I do not want to assemble a device that could get into “thermal runaway”. Look it up. Not a positive description detail.
There is something that gives me pleasure, listening to someone else describe a great idea. I am no waiting for the other part of the story. Did the effort result in a fire. Or worse? Would you do it again?
I have lots of time, because the next RV comes with batteries that should be good for several years. No need to get crazy, or play panic. When the time is right I will know.
Now then, what about ideas for blackout curtains. There is always paint, but that might not pass the inspection step.
