If I only had some video
Somewhere along the way, my education was derailed. The ability to tell a story was removed from my curriculum, and replaced with endless hours of calculations. Math, mainly, but the basics of physics and chemistry instilled. Distilled. Not sure why, because quadratic equations have never figured highly in my needs.
The making of movies is well into a second century. We watch video content everyday on our computers on our TV set in the cinema, and we are really fortunate if we learn the basic skills required to create a video. The art of the storyboard, for example.
A camera will capture who passes in front of the lens, but the story has to be there. The editing room will help, but there has to be a story at some point. I never got that skill set, and I am sorry.
What should I do? I have cameras that can do the image capture, but the script is even more important. I don’t see myself recycling my career, at this point, but I would love to convince my children of the importance. For the future. For the passing of a message.
I am sure that we all have tiny stories that could profit from some video. If I describe sitting in the parked car, while the scenery rolls by outside, a short movie would help. If when I tell you about the dog jumping from the porch, into the snow, to amaze his new fox friend, it cries out for video. In passing, he is a very old dog, so I want to share the amazement on all of our faces.
