Cannonball
Several years ago, an intrepid pair of explorers, with a dog, set off to see the world. Criss-cross the continent. Dip a toe in the Pacific. The usual stuff. Took them (us) many weeks, and in retrospect the trip was too fast. Should have slowed the pace and taken more photos. Oh well, next time. Pay attention to the time allowed, because if factors into the story.
Today, I watched a rather long video about the efforts to criss-cross the continent quickly. The records were set over a few decades, and each one fell to the next. Until someone crossed in just over a day. No, not by plane. In a fast car, with reckless abandon for posted speed limits. Nothing like their (our) trip. At a guess, the driver saw nothing out the side windows.
Actually, their (our) own journey was fine. Still have a number of states to catch, in the running list, but there is plenty of time. And the driver (singular) is even more experienced. And daring. Could be epic, the next time around.
I cannot imagine doing something like this. Yes, we had a MB. No, we never got close to maxima velocity, and the idea of driving all night wasn’t part of the plan. I would give you a link to the speed version, because that record will probably never fall again. Too many bumps in the road. Yes, cars can go fast, but drivers come with limitations. Pee breaks. The pee stands for petrol.
The real rides inspired different cinematic sagas, because this was for real. Not Hollywood.
