Collateral damages

posted in Uncategorized |

An incident from yesterday will require that I file a report. I must need to decide if it goes under “effects of climate change” or the more general heading of “collateral damage. Since I haven’t been out to inspect the site, personally, I am basing this on secondary accounts.

We had some freezing rain, yesterday. Along with snow. Enough to close the schools, if you want to get the bigger picture. And when the snow thrower came by, an errant lump of ice managed to destroy a bird feeder. Unsure if this was a direct hit, or a glancing blow from the volley. Little matter. Amazon will provide a replacement.

As is often the case, not everything has a negative side. The birds are pleased to be included in the cleanup efforts, and the squirrels are providing backup support. Until the structure can be repaired, we are using alternative methods of food distribution for the hungry. And there will always be hungry.

I have a different view. It could have been so much worse. The snow thrower has shrapnel, and we have windows. Sooner or later. Also, the tiny bits of gravel are leaving the driveway for greener fields. Something else to replenish, come summer. No, I will not do a stone recovery.

Tried that exercise, other years. I don’t need that much exercise. Or frustration. My own take on the situation is that the lawn needs particulate, going forward.

In other news, the super-residence in on campus is open for business. Winter Games, and then students who appreciate that old is not always better.
