Moments from elsewhere
Spent some time revisiting past travel points. Not literally; safe here at home with vivid memories. And it should not surprise anyone that these moments were low key.
There was that time in a parking area for trailers in SK. Not a camping area. Rather, a place for people to leave their trailers when they went away to work. We didn’t meet anyone. The moment when the attendant came out to construct our nightsoil drain, from sections of PVC demonstrated that some things are best not seen. We stayed for one night.
Another intense memory involved a lot of wild mammals. Prairie dogs? Anyhow, we were in a park near a famous waterfall, and these guys had the run of the place. Not dangerous. Picturesque. I really should have taken a picture. Again, one night, but a mental memory to last for years.
There were the badlands, with the warning sign. Beware of insects and snake. Yes, I stayed on high alert. No need to read the sign twice. We have nothing like that locally.
Coming down the hill into a town. On the railroad siding, odd boxcars. Turns out, this had been a camp for the homeless almost a century ago. The cars stayed in place, for the rest of us to ponder. I was able to find historical references, because some things are best not forgotten.
Finally, an amazed waitress in a tiny BBQ diner not far from Pittsburgh. She was young, and she had not met anyone from a foreign country, before then. Perhaps we will be the motivation for her to see something of the world.
