Irrelevant math skills
So many hours. I’ve lost count. Math class. Compulsory. And now I’m coming to grips with just how little I received in the way of practical skills.
This afternoon, while trying to calculate the optimum tilt angle for solar panels, I had to accept the truth. We learned none of this, back in those classes. Yes, there was some theoretical geometry, but at no point did we examine the parameters for optimized collection of solar energy. And now I realize that there is a serious need for such skills. I am not a flower, or a leaf. They do this.
I have enough practical knowledge to be dangerous. Guess the wind turbines will pose similar puzzles (once the apparatus is available). Don’t get me started on refrigeration. But, I do have experience in solving quadratic equations. No need to go there. Education, you have failed me. My teachers had patience, and tricks, and so many questions; did they also ever learn to do something practical with their decades of effort?
I’ll put this to rest; I’m on a chocolate fueled high. Yes, there were extra tiny bars that came home, last evening. The Coffee Crisp rocks! I will curse the wrappers, as an aside. Too static-clingy. Next year, the Bulk Barn will get my money. At least the dog is indifferent to my gluttony.
I have learned that we have some metal rods, in the garage. My antenna remount is inevitable. Before any onset of winter, as a plus. With the feed lines already ready, getting a makeshift mast should be simple enough.
