A session question
Today was a partially busy day. That is, there were things that happened where I did not take part, and things that I did. So, let’s recapitulate.
In the area, the annual Terry Fox walk/run/ride saw groups make their way out from the local community center. Along the road to the trail, and then back again. I did not participate, but I was fully aware. Sort of the same thing, by my calculation.
Then, I made bread. Actually, I fed the robot, and put things away at the end of the session. Another case of the same thing, except that I will get to eat the bread. All good.
And, at the end of the afternoon, we went to an event. One that had tickets, so it was not spontaneous. The launch of a local IPA (I was not involved), along with a bowl of hearty soup and crusty bread. Unlike my bread. The soup had that quality. Where if a full pot was to be set on the counter, we would continue until we hit bottom (of the tureen). I hope to learn the skill of making delicious soup before I die. It seems so civilized.
There’s a curious tradition, in the world of the session, where people are invited to take their instruments and come and join in the circle. Are there people with fiddles that simply show up and play? What an interesting idea.
We stayed around for a “session” which is something I rarely have an occasion to do. How do fiddlers remember all their tunes, in the absence of catchy lyrics? I can handle short bits, but then the memory goes to empty.
