Some music on my playlist
We are creatures with memories. We like to remember. In the company of others, we reminisce. Alone, we recall. Triggered by people, places, things, emotions. Pretty complex, actually.
Getting together with people requires that we schedule. Places, not as much, but there may be a need to travel. Things depend on things. Emotions are something else. There, we can listen to particular music and find ourselves rewound.
This morning, I used a compilation of material from Cat Stevens. You may know him by another name, but the songs remain the same. His albums (what is an album, asked a much younger person) cover a particular period, one of transition. I went through the intense social involvement of high school, on without a pause into the intense social involvement of university. The Cat was there for all of it. On a calendar, the Sixties and the Seventies. There were other artists who were more popular (the Beatles, hint), but somehow the mix of songs with strong lyrics and melodies meant that the Cat remained a personal favorite.
Importantly, his music still sounds GOOD. It still trigggers memories. If I had to make a treasure chest of songs to take along to isolation, I would definitely add Mr. Stevens into the equation.
Sing along, when you know the words. Even the ones in ersatz Latin.
If you are unfamiliar with his work (is that even possible?) turn to YT (of course) where his music remains readily available. I know; buying a vinyl LP is getting tricky, and don’t even start on the hardware required. Take the simple path.
