Beach Hints

posted in Uncategorized |

While walking along our beaches, there are things to keep in mind.

Every grain of sand will end up in your bed. I speak from experience. Develop a remediation plan.  Garden hoses  and large towels go a long way toward, preventing you adding anti slip layers to the floors.

If you are under a shower, it’s normal. You might be too close to breaking waves. Or, it might be raining. The beach is subject to weather moments.

That seagull, hovering above you, is either a potential shitstorm, or a drone. Check for flashing red lights. Wave to the operator. Forget trying to spot the tail markings.

If you suddenly hear helicopters, and they are blaring “Ride of the Valkyries” from an open door; you have gone through a portal, and you are now on the set of a blockbuster movie from the late ‘60s. Implausible is not the same as impossible. Wave at the director.

On the shore, there is a strict delineation between shore and ocean. Your feet might get wet, but if the water continues to climb on your torso, reverse direction. Your “walk on water” strategy is not going well. Also, it gets deeper as you go. Remember your swimming lessons with the Red Cross. Didn’t go well then, won’t go well now. Trust me on this one.

The sand hides many treasures. Pirate gold. Lost relics. Doggy do-doo, stored for retrieval. Be careful out there.

I have heard that the shark count is also up. Don’t follow the fancy fin. These are fishing waters, and fresh sea bass attracts more than people with chairs and long poles.

Once you find where you hid your car, in the dunes, check the license plates. Tourists don’t know where they are, and getting directions back to the highway is an iffy proposition. Better to drop pebbles on the way in, and then retrace your steps. Yes, the car is capable of that, just like you. Modern technology.
