Along the rainbow trail
I lost track, this afternoon. Unable to enumerate the rainbows that kept coming into view as we drove from there to here. Yes, I understand the science. No, I did not invent any of them. Just there, in the sky ahead. A good thing; a sign that the rain has stopped, and that there is sun coming out from behind the clouds. They were all the same, and all different. The colour sequence is a constant, according to the science. But folks get really excited about spotting one, so spotting multiple ‘bows is a positive thing. Doesn’t cost any extra.
I will mention the “there”. We went to the new restaurant down by the river. The location has been in used for about a half century now. I have been there, in a number of iterations. Today, the food was very good, and we will come back for coffee and dessert.
Last evening, I received a digipic that I hadn’t seen before. Probably more than a century old. A posed setting with my grandfather, some of his brothers, and (maybe) my great-grahdfather. I don’t know the occasion. They were all “well turned out” which means that some forethought went into getting the group to come and sit still. Sepia. I’ll try and find some modern software that will allow false colours to be used. Skin tones, for people that lived by the sea. I think I have met some of the members of the group but I was very young, and my mind has its own filters. Do I recognize Grampy because I remember, or because I’ve seen something similar? Fewer and fewer people to ask for corroboration. When you read that advice that says “label your old photos”, take the advice to heart. You don’t get do-overs, a half a century later. And your clues will fade, in the same way that the sepia wash did. Yes, I did learn the chemistry, a long time ago. Didn’t understand the why, then or now.
