Simple conjecture
Let’s play a short game of conjecture. I’ve lived in a state of peace, my whole life. What liittle I know of war comes from movies and TV documentaries. In other words, I really don’t know much. Met a refugee once or twice. Again, I don’t know much. I am aware that we have a very long border with our nearest neighbours; when I crossed, I had to remove my sunglasses and fprfeit a bag of grapes. Uneventful moments. And I have heard that crossing that long border, without permission, could lead to some serious discomfort.
What makes that border important is that we are surrounded on the other three sides by water, frozen or otherwise. And until anyone intending to invade (us) learns how to walk on water, the line in the treess running east to west is it. But, what if the “United States” became just “States”. United is a state of mind. And recently, the neighbour’s bus has been wobbly. Remember that old school song about “The wheels on the bus go round and round”? What if the wheels fall off, and folks decide to seek a better life. Instant refugees, with a penchant for open carry. It could make for interesting times.
Now, this is all conjecture. But the idea that there’s discussion about things like “invasion” which hasn’t happened in the last two centuries, serves to remind that we live in fortunate times which could devolve into interesting times. Yes, invasions are still a thing; watch the evening news. And don’t say “never” about things that have happened in the past.
I’ve been asked to avoid discussion (conjecture) of the sort with my children. And my neighbours. Eally leaves the dog as my only partner. And you, my readers. Please, discuss amoung yhourselves.
