Groceries; a challenge

posted in Uncategorized |

The propane tanker came to visit, this morning. I have fuel, and some other problems. The genney guy has been called, and we’ll sort things out. Little by little.

A bigger moment came, this afternoon. I went grocery shopping (more correctly, I tagged along on what wold be a normal moment in a normal life. For me, it was more of a “Hold Crap” moment. I shop locally. Have the floor plan and product placements pretty much mastered. All good, until one sees less.

I cannot shop alone, going forward. Sure, I could fill a cart and find the checkot, but the array of choices in my cart will rate as random. You might recognize the familiar shape of a soup can balel, but when the words required daptive technologies (my new catch phrase), the flavour choice becomes an object of surprise.

As well, when I fill a cart, I had better stay close to “my buggy”. I could adopt someone else’s list of needs, until they spot me. Maybe even make it through the checkout, if the original shopper was distracted by an alsle converstation. They will not want that.

In the average supermarket, the array of products is carefully planned. Send in someone with diminished sight capabilities, and that planning is for naught. Having me try to discover the iendtity of products in the freezer section will allow a lot of cold into the room. The store manager will goet a call announcing climate change in aisle nine.

I guess I’m going to need someone alongside, from now on. And schedule my exploratory efforts until a time when the store is almost empty. Good to know. My meals are going to change. Less or more diversity, anyone’s guess. And unless the “deal of the week” comes with bright lights and letters, my budget will need to be adjusted. Happily, fresh produce is coded for everyone. A grape is a grape, etc. And bananas seem to have one variation: bio or not bio. What’s that all about?
