Check your change (purse)

But, it could be important: Canada wonders if we are due (overdue?) for an upgraded coat of arms. The one that used to be seen on certain coins. Remember coins? In this case, the Fifty cent piece. At a bet (safe one), there are none of these in your back pocket, or the family change purse. The thing is, duringr the last century, there have been a few changes in the bigger Canadian story. We added one province, for sure. Changed the name of a couple of those mysterious territories that many will never visit, in a lifetime. Became a true nation, with our own rule of law.

Things may improve

I realize that maps (and by extension, basic geography) can seem complicated.  But, when the governor of Texas claimed that illegal immigration from people walking across a shared border with South Africa was an issue, I didn’t need to consult an atlas. I knew this wasn’t going to “fly”. Do these people even feel silly when they make fallacious statements like this?

Another clouded evening

At least it’s not lava! This could serve as a wonderful slogan for that epic sweatshirt. But, what about if you happen to live in a community with this as your new reality? According to the news, there are towns in Spain with exactly this as a reason to move away. Except, sometimes you can’t. I guess that life just got to be more interesting for the residents of a volcano called La Cumbra Vieja. My forecast of snow now seems rather benign.

Rising waters and higher risks

Ealt with ongoing flooding  insult to the injury: BC version. Homeowners in areas of the province that have (nope, not over yet) heavy rainfall and floods have started to hear from their insurers. With enough water damage, the policy you paid for is nothing more than another wet piece of paper in your water-logged home.

And then, we have Ian, from Tull

Anyone who has passed through the mill of musical education will understand where I’m coming from. Yes, a teacher is a good thing. No, a teacher cannot take all the praise for someone who moves beyond the basics of study on a given instrument. You can’t teach everything.  Now, what set that off?

Shorten my wish list, if that’s possible

Those endless Black Friday ads, which should end after this week, remind me that there are many things I could have in my home that are impractical but novel. Things I don’t actually own, yet. I’m going to focus on a particular range of items that might interest me.

More shots? I couldn’t be happier

If the weather forecast uses terms like “localized showers”, pay attention. Yesterday, we received about 30 cm of water. No big deal. In contrast, just across the strait, certain areas received fully ten times that amount, in the same time period.

But, first, a word from our sponsors

Busy winter ahead, for the latest iteration of our federal government. Among the promises (because a throne speech isn’t anything more), we’re going to end the pandemic, fight climate change and put the economy on an even keel. Frankly, I can’t wait!

Could a brief nap provide inspiration?

Well, so much for that idea. I had come up with a bright idea: if I was to pretend to fall asleep, after a large meal, I could get one of those thought streams that seem so wonderful, at the time. A whole post, composed while threading my way through a dream field.

Drama or melodrama

A lifetime of watching TV drama has left me prepared. Probably not in a rational way, but we’ll see how this plays out. So here’s the hook.
