The harvest is in

The harvest is in. This would have been a reason for rejoicing, in earlier times. Now, it’s just a detail in my life. The field below here is not mine. I don’t plow it, or sow it, or send in the crews to gather in the crop. I just watch what goes on, with the same level of understanding that my dog offers when he sees me doing things that don’t concern him. The machines drove away, late this afternoon, and we’ll have no late night spraying for another three years. On that note, let the party begin.

Oops. The pot fell over.

At the end of our lane, we have an oversized flower pot. Serves as a marker, when people are trying to find the nearby ditch. And today, a potato truck tried to turn around in our drive, and managed to knock the pot “ass over tea kettle”. Missed the ditch, though.

Blue bagged pleasure

One of my preferred days in my monthly calendar: blue bag day. That’s when I get to send all of the various empty milk bottles and tin cans off to their final reward. Today, the bags looked sl onley that I decided to bonify the stop for the big green truck.

Down from my ladder

No waiting for the full moon. If we want to go outside, after dark, the two garage area lights are nowin place. They even turn on when you get close, and turn off after a mysterious delay (I don’t want to go back up on the step ladder; things work). But, seriously, the last few weeks while things worked “sometimes” are now history. My task here is done.

Departed on a gust of wind

Some things can’t be blamed on the weather. Even if the weather is to blame. Let me elaborate.

The renewal of the light

A well-functioning home is akin to a small enterprise. With that as a given, I am the CTO of the company. Chief Tecnology Officer, because any acronym should be explained upon its introduction (I read that someplace, and it sounds about right). So, in short, I get to fix what is broken, or at least prepare a sound, reasoned excuse for the CEO. You can Google that one. My pleasure.

Real life language tests

Learning a new language is a struggle. There, now you know. For the majority of us, we dabble at verbs in high school. Some of us go an extra step and spend years learning (dare I say it) Latin. Lingua franca, etc. However, in my time, the only real test was going to church, and trying  to stay in lock step with the souls in the nearby pews. The Ordinary was never ordinary.

Is that a rare rock (on your pillow)?

Probably there is a list of things that go bang in the night. The dog, stumbling around. A peal of thunder. A rock coming through the ceiling and landing on your pillow. The last one is a real event; happened in BC earlier this week. We have photos, thanks to the media.

A call for new lights

One effect of the pandemic is that my time requirement for “community volunteering” has dropped to a point where I hardly realize I’m involved, any more. Tonight, we held back-to-meetings; interesting, but the job of turning my scribblings into a useful record will be challenging. I didn’t go for verbose, and now I have to wax poetic. Tomorrow.

Another piece of our collective musical knowledge

Every day, I assume, we lose a musician to death. I don’t need a list. I don’t need one of those “we remember” sequences on an award show. We just do.
